Today, the 15th of August 2005 www.Navodaya.Net is celebrating its first anniversary and this wonderful time has come after continuous effort by its family members. Looking back in to the past I am really proud of all our members who took efforts directly or indirectly to make it true Navodaya family website. I thought I might say a few words to commemorate its first anniversary.
The www.Navodaya.Net website's Story actually begins on February 2004. I was getting free time from my daily office work. Here in USA that's wintertime and no outdoor activities. The only best friend was Internet. I started visiting yahoo groups to know and share the views with Indian communities. I came across few Navodaya yahoo groups and I started actively participating into these groups. Then suddenly some one raised the issue of our own website. Thoughts were exchanged major concern and confusion was alumni. JNV samiti considers only the students who passed 12th from JNV are true alumni. We thought we are family and we will not treat any one as step brother/sister. Finally everyone decided we would not give the alumni touch to the site but the Navodaya family. This will also help us to bring current jnv students on this platform. Then in the month of July 2004 I registered domain and rented webspace for www.Navodaya.Net. I started customizing opensource package I purchased from php nuke. Then the golden day came 15th August 2004 officially www.Navodaya.Net launched !!!
Over the past 12 months many people have visited this site. Some discovered the site through word of mouth, some through the yahoo group forums, some stumbled over it quite accidentally while looking for something else, and others found their way here by randomly plugging into a search, perhaps not even knowing what exactly it was they were looking for, or hoping to find. You've read and posted messages in the Community Forum, you've read and remarked on the articles/news, some of you even contributed articles, you've posted announcements. I'm not sure how one measures the success of a website. I suppose it's valid to measure success by the number of visitors a site attracts, the number of return visits, page loads, the lengths of the stay, etc. So, okay, here are some of the stats:
During the first year of operation, more then 22267 visitors have visited and accessed 536843 files with 782196 hits and 4159 MB bandwidth, while the traffic is increasing continually, It provides comprehensive and systematic related information. Thanks to extensive work of Roushan, Ashish, Raghuv and all members. Navodaya.Net has became an attractive platform for all JNV students. It is registered in all major search engines with page rank of 2, bringing more visitors who search for Navodaya. To date, the www.Navodaya.Net website has now over 1000+ pages, 272 posts and 800 members.
Thanks to feedback from www.Navodaya.Net members and friends, the Navodaya.Net team has been successful in improving the website's user-friendliness.
Looking into the future we have great challenge to integrate all Navodaya websites and groups on one platform keeping their unique identity. Then organize our organization and policy to reach at ground level.
