Do you think democracy in India, in all its majestic greatness has been a success , or do you think India has now become a prophet of an empty democracy , by not being able to uphold , what I believe, is the most fundamental part of a democracy - equality before law .

For every man punished for causing death by rash and negligent driving will India ever be able to punish its salman khans, for every poaching incident, where was justice when it came to nawab of pataudi ,these cases will go on forever, will there ever be a result ,And for the ongoing demolitions,Punish the violators (yes they are guilty),but what about the builders and how about ever setting an example by demolishing the infamous sainik farms(not a single building is legal) the stronghold of Delhi’s rich and powerful.

Janak,
sorry for late
I am optimistic about future and willing to know how we can participate in system. Janak till the participation of people doesn’t increase we cannot get the democracy in real sense, I feel.
Between these days Salman is punished Result of best bakery case is out, Murderers of Jesica are free and again the case is started and many more things are happening. So traditions of democracy are still in process of stabilization. We are a democracy in making.
I feel you are from legal sector so you may give us a little knowledge about how people can participate in things. Like how PIL is filed, etc I hope you will take care of this. There are many who’ll like to hear things from you and others who are interested
Hope you’ll write soon

PostPosted: Tue Apr 04, 2006 1:26 am    Post subject: DEMOCRACY Prevents Famine Reply with quote

Dear Janak
Yes, I think Democracy in India has been a gr8 success. If u are aware of the statistics then u must be knowing that very few, i will say very few, countries have been able to experience functioning democracy.
let me make myself very clear that i am not talking about the direct democracy. In india we have representing democracy.

it is just unthinkable to have a democratic country of 1 billion population.
Democracy is successful in western europe, north america which are less populous countries. in asia only japan nd india has been able to continue the democracy for a substantial amount of time. Apart frm that, south korea, malesia nd srilanka to some extent.

India having such a diversity, democracy is the best possible option. we can understand it better if we compare with some other country. nd for me classical example is China. It is true that China is growing at 10% of annual growth, even though it is a authoreterian country.

I put the subject as Democracy prevents Famine. It is true, since independence India has not experienced any famine. Because it is hard to win the election after famine. While China has experinced largest famine of history during 1959-1962, in which 30 million ppl died. Due to authareterian govt. China's leap Forward policy lead to disaster for the nation.

let us talk about the Human Development Index where life expectancy is major factor. China has shown a continuous growth till a steep fall in life expectancy due to famine. Point to be noted is that: Democracy guarantees that such a steep fall will never occur. nd if u compare China with kerala, an ideal state of India, which has radicalism nd multiparty democracy is far ahead of china in life expectanvy nd infant mortality rate.

Yes, I agreee that we face lot of problems in democracy. But noting is perfect we have to make them perfect. Democracy is for the educated ones so we have to consider these existing constraints.

Public opinion through Free press nd media check our leader in taking ne extreme steps in policy formation which will not be possible without democracy.

dear Roushan, i wud love to provide some information about right to information nd PIL if u r still in doubt about using them.

I hope next comment will not take 1 month.
bbye....
Raj

Nice answer Raj! I am happy that you came with such good facts and arguments.
Infact our expectations from democracy are such great that we forget to talk about things we reached at. We forget our duty and just remember what our rights are
I will have to confess that I have little knowledge of the process of filling PIL
it would be nice if Raj or any one else(we have many guys who can do) writes here about PIL and RTI
Dear friends Raj is asking your views, your ideas
don't sleep plz Laughing I hope that we will talk more

Thanx roushan for ur appreciation !!

Though I am not a qualified person to write on such topic but i am wrting to my best knowledge. and i expect others to add.

PIL stands for Public Interest litigation. it can be filed using a simple postcard. Write ur concern on the post card nd mail it to Supreme Court, New Delhi. There is a separate registrar office to look on such PIL nd on merit they accept. Once it get accepted u just have to confirm the case nd have to produce the case before SC. U don't need to hire ne lawyer for this. u will be provided a lawyer.
SC can use ne article or advertisment published by media as PIL nd can form su-moto on that basis. Like Jessica lal case has been taken be SC as su-moto case.

other plz add nd correct if ne thing written by me is wrong.

Thnax

Hi Raaj kishor,

Hello Friends

I promised to provide information regarding RTI (Right To Information) too in this thread. It is, I believe, one of the strongest tool which a democratic country can provide to its citizen. If used judiciously nd properly, even by handful of ppl, it can bring revolution.

I don't want to post things just for the sake of posting. If ne1 is really interested to know about it, plz reply to this thread. Then only, I will give some useful link nd some introduction.

Unnecessarily, i don't want to occupy the precious space of this forum. Also it needs lot of time to compile the informations frm different sources.

In good faith
Rajkishor

Hi All,

The last few days have generated a lot of new posts in forum. I would like to reply....lets see how far i can really manage.

I totally agree with Raj and Roushan and all. We should be happy that we have democracy in our country. But i have a question here, DO WE HAVE THE REAL SOUL OF DEMOCRACY?? Mahatma Gandhi ne kaha tha "SAMAAZ KE ANTIM PANKTI MEI KHADE HUE AADMI KA AANSHU POCHNA HUMARA LAKSHAYA HONA CHAHIYE." But our condition still remain like this poem which is written by Kedar Nath Agarwal. I am writing bellow:

Jo bhookh mili
sougooni baap se adhik mili
ab pet khalae firta hai
choura muh baae firta hai
woh kya jaane aazaadi kya
Aazaad desh ki baaten kya.

What is the meaning of democracy then??

wid rgds,
rewa.

Hi buddies...
Its really nice to see great issues being discussed over here.
I hope every body knew bout lates issue of OBC 27% reservation issue raised by Central HR minister Sri.Arjun singh. Its really so pathetic to see such great leaders and others to use such kind of "Sensitive Issues " for their party sake.

Need less to say that elections gonna be taking place in 5 states.Above kinda statements will really boost their campaign indirectly.but according to Election Committee one shud nt use such kind of compaign...hence E.C asked Arjun ji for clarification by today evening.

And one more imp thing is that reservation shud nt exceed 50%.but if this issue gonna be taking shape really,it wud exceed that limit and it leads to violation of supreme court principles.

Ratan TATA in response to this issue has made an excellent word...like..

"NATION SHUD NOT BE BUILD ON THE BASIS OF RESERVATION RATHER ON SKILL".

Even if the above mentioned reservation system gonna take place atlest they shud ensure that the no of seats in corresponding universities ans institutes shud be increased...so dat , it wud help all ...
==============
cheers,

Well handled by Raj Kishor with facts. Probably one of those debate which has taken place most frequently ever since we became a democratic country. A democracy with a huge diversity and still exist.

Do I need to mention this is because of democracy, this que is raised again and again over time. And we are debating over it with so comfortness and openly. This Open Debate in itself proves the Success of Democracy.

Well for Reservation, I think it is a very complete debate in itself. So I would suggest to start into a new thread rather than mixing it here.

And I believe all of the members in the forum will take reservation debate as a healthy debate and while commenting the words should not mean to hurt anyone.

Dear Friends,

In India, the democracy is cracking under the burden of its own. It has again became a system of ruling through division on the line of cast. The leaders are having dual personality, corruption is their birth right. Moral ethics have touched its lowest scores. There are only a few pillars which till yet seems to be intact like judiciary or election commission. But that is also not sure for how long.

Here are some lines which gives true pictures of Indian Democracy in modern context :-

Aman chor dekho Aman bechate hain.
Kafan chor dekho kafan bechate hain.
Banaya tha jinko majuma vatan ka,
Wo Dilli me baithe Vatan bechate hain.

Thanks and regards,

OK! Nice description by Ajay. Actually it makes me to ask all of us here. Out of 1804 members here HOW MANY VOTE into the ELECTIONS?

If this is 75% + then I do agree with Ajay. We are just about to Collapse.

PostPosted: Tue Apr 11, 2006 2:54 pm    Post subject: LEADER Issue Reply with quote

Dear frds
it is good to see that ppl are taking interest in discussing the politics nd system.
Ajay has raised a vailid issue of Leadership. Dear frds, if we are pointing any problem, then we sud produce its solutuion too. Here, i am trying to take up the Leadership issue.
Ajay rightly said that our poltician are more worried abt their vote bank than the social wellfare. They are involved in corruption nd their moral values are very low.

But frds, Who are those leaders? Even presently, who are joing the politics, who are they? Today most of the ppl join politics whose earlier generation were also involved in politics. Election costs such a hell lot of money that a common man can't afford. So the problem is with our Leaders which are perpetuating such practices to remain in power.
The country has not yet provided good leaders in recent past. So frds as a solution to this, i beileve, if they are not able to provide good leadership we will provide.

we have to have become future leaders, if we want to provide better future to our next generation.

Sociologists say, 3 things are needed to change the society or Existing system.... Ideas, Organizations nd Action.

We have got the education nd we are able to form an ideology. It is time now, for us, to return sth to the society to our ability nd capacity.

Organization are thr, we have to make them strong nd give them better direction. If we r not convinced with them, we can form aur own. N.net is capable of mobilzing ppl. We can work out our Action.

This is the solution, i see. I can not hope frm these corrupt politician nemore.

Hi Politics campaigners(Roushan,Raj,Gour,Ajay Smile) and others,

I have already put a question in my above post. First i would like to know the answer of my question. So politics ke campaigners thora hume samjhane ka kasht karo. If my question is not valid then ignore it without any hesitation. But again i have a question....if we don’t have real soul of democracy then there is no question of failure or failed democracy.... Question don't you think so?? Wat do you all say??

wid rgds,
Rewa.
