Dear Rewa di,
What do u mean by we don't have real soul of democracy? India has already shown how much depth as well as faith, it has in democracy. The way in which Governmet transfers their power from one party to another is amazing. Even so called developed country has failed to do so. you can take the example of currently existing deadlock situation in Italy. There, No Party is willing to accept the defeat. Even in USA, Bush, 1st citizen of the country, wins the election by tricks.

It is just unthinkable to have the democracy for a country having 1 billion ppl with so much variation in religion and language. And we made it possible !!

Again i am repeating. plz Do not question on democracy. can ne1 suggest any other alternative for india better than democracy.(if u have, we can discuss that too)

I am not saying that we are perfect. There are lot of loopholes which has to be fixed by us, not by any one else.

Rather than questioning the democracy we sud act together to make it better.

now coming to ur genuine question about the empowering of poor. Yes we have not achieved the goal yet. The fruits of economic development is not reaching to everyone in equal proporion. Vertical as well as Horizontal disparity has increased. Very few are getting too many things and too many have very few to hope for.
Rahter i say, in the last 10 yrs it is not the software or manufacturing sector which has grown fastest. It is the inequality between rich and poor which is growing at much faster rate. This is not the failure of democracy, it is the failure of its people.
Just have a look on the people who are joing politics now a days. Do u expect them to do work for the wellfare of the siociety.
Who are choosing them? Why we have black listed the politics as a career option? Why we are not aware of such things. India is facing a calamity of ignorent ppl. We have developed a tendecy of ignoring the things... most often than not we say Dhou kiya hoga karke.. jaise chal raha hai .. chalne do......

If we want to see the better society, we have to come forward. And i think we are trying. One day we will get the result too in our favour.

Thank You
Rajkishor

Hi everybody
Since long I was waitinng for the opportunity to have my feelings shared with you. Now I got one. Wink
People generally understand democracy to mean the freedom to choose the polticians, choosing between the poisons.
The bottles contains the same poison.
They are befooling us.
Whole strategy have been managed in such a way that very few people become aware of what is happening.
After five years, when we are fed-up with one kind of poison,we change to another bottle. They are available in all shapes and sizes, and we fall in same ditch again and again.
May be there are minor difference in the poisons, but poison is poison.
We are being exploited in different names.
The exploiters even call themselves Public Servent,to tell us that they are serving us.
They define democracy beatifully, Goverment,of the people, for the people,by the people. They always have been able to pursuade us that whatever is being done is done for ours sake, and we, in utter confusion somehow choose somebody.
All polticians are opportunist. He talks about principles, but he has none.To fool the people,he use all sort of principles.
Now the world has advanced so much that not a single person should dye of hunger. We are having tremendous wealth for that. But polticians have been investing those wealth beautifully, so that they can rule us.
Answer of Rewa's question is WE DON'T HAVE THE REAL SOUL OF DEMOCRACY, AS IT IS DEAD IN THE HAND OF POLTICIANS.
Just the very existence of nations, driving huminity into stupid parts is the whole game of polticians. this is the real pollutionof humanity.
Right now the world is spending more than 40% of our wealth on the name of defence.
And on the name of defence,we have gathered sufficient power to destroy this little planate, ten times. As though destroying once is not enough.
Should not that money have been and should be used for the welfare of humanity ?
If globalisation happens, polticians will be no more. Then only there will be democracy, for everybody. And that democracy will have life into it.
Believe me, at this very moment, I wanted to whisper few words about few good well known poltician, whom I know personally, but I can't dare. I am a coward. But I hope you all can understand.I got a beautiful life and want a beautiful wife, and I don't want my dreams to end abruptly.
To me,democracy means there will be no poltician around.
Poltician need not go and convince the peple that I am the right person and other is wrong.
If a person is good he will never indulge himself in poltics, for the simple reason that he don't have hunger for power.
We will have to go to them and request them to lead us in right direction, like I request the persons like Pradeep sir, Murali sir,Rewaji, ajayji, rajkishore saheb, raushan saheb, and all my friends to lead this navodaya.net in the right direction,in a unique way.

Recently NDTV had a special show about whether India can overtake china and vikram chandran was hosting it and journalist Tom Friedman a columnist with new york times was one of the guests. Now during the course of the discussion he was asked which political system ( India or China) worked better. He said the indian legislature are the most corrupt and the institutions worked better in china but google does not need to have barriers in china regarding google blog and and google mail. Freedom is the biggest reality in India.

Dear Satyajeet,

I really failed to understand what point u wanted to make from your post. You have accused the politicians not one, two, three or four times but through out the post many times.
And i think, here all will agree with me, that u did not point out any new problem. So it implies that we are aware of all kind of problems.
Dear friend, we are fortunate to know and understand the problems. If we also talk about only problems then who will provide solutions?

For me "If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem". So better we all should be part of the solution and contribute constructively to our society.

If I understood u correctly, u are talking about participatory democracy. I fully agree with you Satyajeet. Real soul of democracy lies here only. But for the country having popualtion of more than 1 billion it might be difficult to implement. It is running very successfully in Switzerland but i have doubt abt it whaen we talk about India.
But we can see participatory democracy on the panchayti raj level. Which we are trying to do. Ofcourse our aim is to achieve it on national level but for that we have to go through representative democracy.

I truly appreciate your concerns and feelings raised in above post.

Dear janak
well said... undoubtedly freedom is the real asset of the democracy.

I think he is Thomas Friedman not Tom friedman.
Thomos Friedman, writer of the Famous book The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century. isn't it?

Thank You

Warm Regards

Hi Rajkishore
and my dear friends,

sorry to reply late, got a bit busy..
Rajkishore I request you to go through my post once more(, as just by quoting few lines you can not explain the essence of the whole para.
And Rajkishore,
Sometimes we have to repeat few things. We have to repeat just to remind ourselves, where we stand.
Becouse nothing comes now as shock........
we are used to everything.
I personaly believe, that every step taken towards the globalization is the ultimate solution of the most of our political problems, but it will happen step by step.
First thing we should do is to replace democracy with meritocracy. It is that the politician can be prevented from ruining the human societies of the world if he is prevented from directly controlling the government and the administration of the state.
The elected representatives of the people of course, should form the parliament, but the parliament or the majority party in parliament should not form the Cabinet or the council of ministers.
The majority party should find highly qualified and experienced specialists and experts in different fields of government -- like education, health, finance and the rest -- and form the council of ministers with them.
For example, it will be the task of the majority party to find the best educationist for the job of education minister.
Similarly it will appoint the best physician as health minister.
The right to select the specialist members of the Cabinet will certainly belong to the majority party, but no popular representatives will be appointed as education minister and health minister, or any minister for that matter.
What we have at the moment is mobocracy; it is certainly not democracy.
Unless democracy is wedded to meritocracy, it will remain a tool in the hands of the ignorant and stupid people.
And unless democracy is allied with meritocracy, democracy will continue to be the instrument of man's downfall and degradation; it can never be the instrument of his uplifting and glory.
I am all in favor of the people electing their representatives; it is their right -- but they have no right to make their representative the education minister of the country.
Meritocracy means the rule of the experts, the specialists, the qualified people[/color]; it is the rule of men of merit.
This is the age of specialization -- we have specialists even for small things of life, and whole world is in the hands of the most incompetent, the most inexpert and unskilled people.
They will continue to ruin the country.
They want to monopolize everything.
They want all power for themselves.
Besides political power, they want to monopolize economic power too. They want trade and industries and everything in their hands.
Even science and religion are not spared -- they want everything under the sun.
They may desire so, but if we allow their desires to be fulfilled, danger is guaranteed.
Thatís where the idea of meritocracy fits.
Meritocracy is not opposed to democracy; meritocracy is a concept of working through democracy.
Maybe, sooner or later, everything will be in the hands of the expert, the knowledgeable.
because democracy basically means government by the people, of the people, for the people,
but the people are retarded.
So let us say: government by the retarded, for the retarded, of the retarded.
As the situation is, all the geniuses of the world are outside governments. Donít give one or two examples.
It is hilarious: those geniuses are needed in the government because they can give the best world to humanity, but they are servants of the politicians.
The people who rule are always mediocre.
Democracy, rightly translated, is mediocracy..
we need people of merit, geniuses, to manage the world -- and things would be totally different.
Few more things, Anybody who is born in India, after a certain age becomes adult, is able to vote.
Why this limitation of a certain age? What is so great about it?
And if you can make a limitation that at twenty-one years -- any age limit -- you are able to vote, why can't you make it a point that unless you have a first-class master's degree in any subject, you cannot vote for the purpose of government?
We can make it a point that you have to pass some kind of aptitude/attitude test if you want to vote in the state government.
You have to have a doctorate if you want to stand for any position in the federal government -- a Ph.D. is absolutely necessary.
If you want to become the president of the country, then you must have at least a D.Litt. or D.Sc.
Without having these qualifications you cannot stand, you cannot run for the post.
So we should require merits for each post -- the highest merits.
And we should make grades of voters: for different level of government. But meritocracy has to take the place of democracy.
with LOVE
